Question:
A Power station has three section Busbars with 11 KV generators on the ring system as under:
Section 1: Two Generators of 30 MVA & 20 MVA with 0.15pu & 0.12pu reactance respectively.
Section 2: One Generator of 60 MVA and 0.2pu reactance
Section 3: Two Generators of 30 MVA & 60 MVA with 0.18pu & 0.2pu reactance respectively.
Sections 1 & 2, 2 &3, 3 & 1 are connected through reactors of rating 60 MVA,90 MVA & 80 MVA with reactance 0.2pu, 0.3pu, 0.24pu respectively.

- Determine the fault Current when a
3 -phase Symmetrical fault occurs at the far end of the feeder with a 0.05pu reactance
& 0.01pu resistance
on 30 MVA base, connected to Section number Three.

Question No 1:
A Station operating at 33KV is divided into two sections A & B interconnected through a reactor X. Section A has Three Generators each 15 MVA having 15 % reactance. Section B is fed from a grid through a 75 MVA transformer with reactance 8 %. The Circuit Breaker have a rupturing capacity of 750 MVA. Find the reactance of the reactor X to prevent the breaker Being overloaded if a 3- phase Fault occurs on outgoing feeder connected to A?
Answer:
1.259Ω

Hi Friends,
This is a new column to be started from Sep 19 -2014 where i will be providing one question every day morning which i feel important during my practice.
The questions are probably not from previous GATE & IES only text book problems.
Since GATE & IES are already available with many people i will try not providing it here unless its very important.
I will be providing the solution the same day night.
You Can Please post in the comments still any questions you find important.
Thanks
